I developed this training Program as a Project Based Learning method. Each phase of 6 phases will come out with a project and a SMART evidance. Its a draft program. If you have any input, you are always welcome .
Program Outline
This 10-day intensive program is structured around a central, hands-on project. Participants will work to design, develop, and deliver a complete Competency-Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A) module for a technical skill of their choice. Each phase of the program provides the knowledge and skills needed to complete the next milestone of the project.
Phase 1: Project Kick-Off & Foundational Concepts (Days 1-2)
- The Driving Question: How can we create an effective and inclusive training module that meets national competency standards?
- Project Milestones:
- Define Project Scope: Understand the context of TVET reform, the NTVQF, and select a Unit of Competency for the project module.
- Conduct Learner Analysis: Create a profile of the target trainee, considering principles of adult learning, diverse learning styles (VARK), and inclusive practices.
- Deconstruct the Competency: Perform a detailed task analysis of the chosen skill to identify core tasks, required knowledge, and performance criteria.
Phase 2: Module Design & Development (Days 3-4)
- The Driving Question: What does a well-structured and resource-rich training module look like?
- Project Milestones:
- Create the Module Blueprint: Develop a comprehensive session plan, write clear learning outcomes, and select appropriate delivery methods.
- Develop Learning Materials (CBLM): Design a set of Competency-Based Learning Materials (Information Sheets, Job Sheets, Activity Sheets) to support the session plan.
- Plan the Learning Environment: Create a checklist for maintaining equipment and ensuring proper housekeeping.
Phase 3: Preparing for Training Delivery (Day 5)
- The Driving Question: How can I deliver my training module safely, effectively, and professionally?
- Project Milestones:
- Develop a Safety & Risk Management Plan: Apply OSH practices by conducting a risk assessment for the planned training session.
- Refine Delivery Skills: Workshop on effective communication, presentation skills, and the GLOSS model for introductions.
- Create a Classroom Management Strategy: Develop plans for managing inappropriate learner behaviour.
Phase 4: Assessment Design & Development (Days 6-7)
- The Driving Question: How do we design fair, valid, and reliable assessments to verify competency?
- Project Milestones:
- Understand Assessment Principles: Learn the principles of competency-based assessment and the rules of evidence.
- Design an Assessment Plan: Create a detailed plan outlining the methods and tools to be used for assessing the skill.
- Develop Assessment Instruments: Design and develop the specific tools (e.g., observation checklists, written tests, portfolio guides) needed to gather evidence.
Phase 5: Project Showcase: Training & Assessment (Days 8-9)
- The Driving Question: Can my module successfully develop and confirm competency in my peers?
- Project Milestones:
- Deliver the Training Module: Participants conduct their 20-minute skills training session, implementing their developed project materials.
- Conduct the Competency Assessment: Participants use their assessment plan and tools to formally assess a peer’s performance.
- Participate in Peer & Facilitator Feedback: Receive and provide constructive feedback on both the training delivery and the assessment process.
Phase 6: Final Review & Forward Planning (Day 10)
- The Driving Question: What have I learned, and what are the next steps for implementation?
- Project Milestones:
- Final Project Review & Reflection: Reflect on the complete project development and implementation process.
- General Feedback: Receive consolidated feedback from facilitators on group performance.
- Forward Planning: Receive a briefing on the next steps, self-study, and final assessments
