Abstract
Bangladesh, a South Asian nation, has experienced notable economic growth in recent years, yet persistent skill gaps and youth unemployment pose significant challenges to sustainable development. In response, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs have gained prominence as a strategic approach to address these issues by providing students with job-specific skills and enhancing their employability. This research delves into the psychological dimensions of vocational education, focusing on its impact on student engagement and career aspirations within the context of Bangladesh.
Through a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, this study aims to explore the intricate interplay between vocational education and students’ psychological well-being, motivation, and future aspirations. Specifically, it seeks to investigate the factors influencing student engagement in vocational education programs and their subsequent effects on career aspirations. Additionally, the research examines potential gender differences in the psychological experiences and outcomes of vocational education participation.
Drawing upon theories of motivation, self-efficacy, and identity formation, the findings of this study are expected to shed light on the psychological mechanisms underlying students’ engagement in vocational education and its implications for their career development. Moreover, by considering the socio-cultural context of Bangladesh, including familial expectations and societal perceptions of vocational education, this research aims to provide insights into the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Bangladeshi students pursuing vocational pathways.
Ultimately, the outcomes of this research endeavor are anticipated to inform policymakers, educators, and stakeholders about the importance of integrating psychological support mechanisms within vocational education frameworks, thereby fostering a conducive environment for student success and addressing the evolving needs of Bangladesh’s labor market.
